Angry Bird Party Preparations

I have no idea what future birthdays will hold, but I do know I have thoroughly enjoyed this one more than any of his others.  He is finally old enough to "get it" and has been telling us he wanted an Angry Birds Birthday Party since December.  So that left us plenty of time to get things ready.  Being the cheap, or uh.... thrifty mom that I am, we made most of the decorations ourselves.  The cool thing is that the birthday boy was able to help every step of the way.

Here were are making the green pigs.
Paint and sharpie marker on balls from the Dollar Tree

He helped spray paint the logs (or at least tried)
Again using sharpie markers and paint, I painted angry bird faces on rubber balls (3 for $1.00 at the Dollar Tree).  See if you can figure out which one does not belong (it is for my Elmo loving daughter).
I made the invitations for his class on the computer and sent a facebook message to our local friends.

One of the guys from work made a life size sling shot frame for us from PVC pipe.  We glued it together and used a cut up milk jug and theraband (it helps that Mommy and Daddy work as rehabilitation therapists) for the sling shot)

He was the official tester of all bird launching devices!

We went on a pine cone hunt around our neighborhood one evening.  This kid has always loved finding pine cones and sticks, so this was quite an adventure for him!

I printed free angry bird templates out and taped them on large punch balloons....I thought one of the levels would be knocking down a wall with these but totally forgot to do it during the party!

The birthday boy even drew some of his own angry birds and pigs and put them around the house. I love, love, love it!  Just in the last few weeks he has taken a huge interest in drawing!

He helped make the Angry Birds Pizzas

My sweet friend Christy made the piggy lantern
and inspired me to make the little birdie lanterns (found at Target)

The food was fun.  We had food birds love: Goldfish, sour worms (because angry birds would only eat the sour ones of course), a trail mix I called "Nest Mess", some pretzels or "logs", and I was supposed to make "Deviled Eggs" but ran out of time so they just had hard boiled eggs, and we had "Piggies to Smash" or green apples to slice up, and some Angry Bird fruit Snacks....
..but most comments about the food centered around the "Angry Bird Poop" (Skittles).

Our amazing neighbors did the largest angry bird cake balls ever for the party!  And the quote from my husband was, "To say these are delicious is a huge understatement".

She also made a cake for the birthday boy.  Now something funny I forgot to mention is that ever since he has been talking about wanting an angry birds birthday party, he has said he wanted an angry bird with a sword candle....well we did the best we could.  We used Cathy's Angry Bird Cake and stuck a sword candle in it....so it was a pirate angry bird!
He also helped set up the levels (although I don't think this was ever clearly explained once the kids arrived)

Level 1 and 2 were the most toddler friendly levels.  These were indoor levels with cardboard bricks (Thank You Oberts!) and all his soft angry bird toys.  Level 2 was an angry bird bean bag throw that my sister sent him for his birthday (Thanks Auntie Barbara).
Level 3
Was whatever configuration the kids made and they had to knock it down using the large sling shot (this was clearly the favorite level)

Level 4 was only 2 pigs, but they had to use the hand held sling shots.  This took more motor planning than some 3 and 4 year olds had and pretty much ended up being knocked over by throwing the rubber balls at the targets or by punching it over with their fists!

These were the pre-party preparations.
The next post will be about the actual party.
