Deprived Child

Poor kid....his parents won't buy him a jungle gym. He had to make due with what he has available.

Yes, he is getting INTO his crib by himself now. It scares the beegeebies out of his mom. Guess it is time to transition to a big boy bed. I was hoping it could wait until we moved, but it looks like it needs to happen sooner than later - and we are still waiting to hear on the house. Luckily he has not yet climbed OUT of bed, but I am sure that will follow shortly.

Week in Review

First of all, I would like to say it is really nice to be a functioning member of society again. I had very few appearances in Dec and Jan due to feeling ill all the time. The second trimester is being much kinder to me than the first! Yay!!!!We had a very busy week.

We added yet another member to our family (Crazy, I know). His name is -well... DOG - for the most part. Nathaniel loves having a dog in the house that he can actually play with. He follows poor dog around, pointing and yelling, dog, dog, dog. It took a few days for dog to warm up to Nathaniel but he covers him with kisses now and Nate loves it (it disgusts me, but whatever....).

The weather has been nothing short of bipolar around here lately. Rainy and cold one minute, bright and sunny the next. It is wrecking havoc on my sinuses. We were able to have some fun outside time in those manic moments that Mother Nature offered us. We have missed the sunshine!

And the continued favorite inside activity is watching the slide show of Ryan and Emma (his cousins)

Monday night we met up with Ted's parents, his step-brother and his family to celebrate that Uncle Lee was awarded teacher of the year! We are so proud of him.

Tuesday and Wednesday nights Daddy got to hang out with his best friend, John who was in town for the week (Nathaniel was very excited to show John our new dog).

Thursday we went to visit Granny. Nathaniel LOVES pushing her around in her wheelchair, and all the residents and staff get a pretty big kick out of it as well.

Relationship with OBs

I have found that pregnant women tend to develop a strange relationship with their OB....I did with mine anyway, when I had Nathaniel. I dearly loved her. I felt like we were friends and she was someone I seriously considered inviting to Nathaniel's little milestone moments (baby dedication, birthday party, etc). She was around my age and had 2 kiddos of her own. She was funny, considerate, compassionate, and just someone I wanted to be friends with (aside from the fact that she has seen parts of me that even my closest friends and family have not!). By the end of the pregnancy, I saw her weekly and truly enjoyed chatting with her. Then I had Nathaniel and it was almost like a painful break up. You know the kind, where they don't return your phone calls and you have no idea what you did wrong. Our relationship turned to the previous yearly get together.....and I kinda missed her.

Baby #2 enters the picture (or womb anyway) and I am excited to share this journey with my OB as well. She is fantastic. Through all the scares, she has a calm, peaceful misdemeanor that just makes me believe everything is going to be OK. During my last visit...she broke my heart....and told me she was moving. What?!?!? You can't do that, I am pregnant. Her husband is in the military and got an extended assignment closer to his side of the family. Of course I completely understand, but I think there were actually tears in my eyes. I do wish her all the best.

Today I had my first appointment with one of her office partners. Actually, it was the doctor that delivered Nathaniel. So, although I know she is good during crunch time, I have to admit I missed Dr. D today.

Good news is Cookie is growing fine. Heartbeat was 154 today. I have still not gained weight (which is surprising since my belly is inflating at a rapid pace, I look about like I did when I was 6 months pregnant with Nathaniel), but I suspect that will change soon since I am not throwing up daily anymore. In fact, it has been over a week now - praise God! I am still pretty tired and nauseous, but I also have had a sinus infection for the past few weeks that is not helping matters. So the journey begins with the new OB....I don't think I will be wanting to invite her to my get togethers, but I think she will be fine.

Fun Saturday

We had a busy and fun Saturday! We began the morning by heading over to Cindy's. one of Mommy's friends, for a baby sign language class. Cindy is an interpreter and teaches at a nearby college. We were joined by our good friends the Oberts, Nate was very excited to see Abby and Izzy and greeted them with a hug.

It was quite evident that Nathaniel has never participated in any organized learning at this point. He was more interested in going over to the window and saying "dog, woof, woof" than showing any of the signs he knows or learning any new ones.....go figure.

After the signing class, Mommy headed out for a girls lunch with 3 of her favorite people and had a great time catching up, while Daddy and Nate had some manly bonding time with lunch and a long nap.

After nap we headed up to the Aquarium in downtown Houston and met up with his "celebrity" cousins. I figured Nathaniel would go nuts about seeing all the fish, but he was most impressed with the white tigers.

Then we headed over to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner...and alas, it is bed time. Nathaniel went down without a fight tonight. Thanks for all the fun, everyone!

Round 2 complete

On the 5th, Nathaniel had his adenoids burned out and had a second set of tubes put in. Here he is prior to surgery, comforted by his Nemo fish!

He had a really rough time coming out of surgery. He flailed around like a bucking bronco...it broke my heart. He was pretty out of it until about 2:00 that afternoon and was a huge grouch the rest of the day. Thankfully my parents were in town and helped entertain him. Saturday was better, he would be happy and playing fine one minute and on the floor throwing a fit the next. But the biggest challenge came on Sunday, he woke up at 3 and did not go back to sleep until 9:30 am. We watched Nemo several times in those wee morning hours! He is getting better day by day and I am praying this is the final ear surgery....surgery ever for that matter!

Celebrities in our home

A few weekends ago, Nate's cousins, Ryan and Emma, came over and spent the night. We frequently view slide shows of the girls, so he thought we had celebrities stay with us. It was funny to watch him look at their photo slide show with them standing right beside him. He was truly amazed. The girls were wonderful with Nate and kept him very entertained....they even taught him all about fighting with light sabers.
